Vol. 351 No. 9

Written Answers. - Animal Feeds.

340.

asked the Minister for Agriculture the action he proposes to take in view of the high cost of animal feeds in this country which leaves producers here in a very difficult position competing with imports.

I am aware of the difficulties being experienced by livestock producers because of the cost of animal feed in relation to livestock prices. The cost of feed here is of course determined by market conditions under the EC market organisation system and at present prices are broadly in line with those in Northern Ireland which is the main source of imports of pigmeat, poultrymeat and eggs.
