Vol. 352 No. 3

Written Answers. - County Roscommon Water and Sewerage Schemes.

448.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he is aware of the urgent need for the provision of a sewerage scheme at Creagh, Ballinasloe, and if he is prepared to approve a major scheme for this growth area of south Roscommon.

No proposals have been submitted to my Department for the provision of sewerage facilities to serve Creagh, Ballinasloe, and the South Roscommon area. However, I understand from Roscommon County Council that negotiations are taking place with Ballinasloe Urban District Council regarding the possibility of connecting to a proposed treatment works in Ballinasloe for which I recently approved contract documents.

449.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will approve a sewerage system for Ballinagard village, Castlerea, County Roscommon; the estimated cost of the project and the number of houses that will be serviced.

Contract documents for this scheme were approved by my Department in April 1974. I understand that the proposal which was intended to serve about 36 houses is being re-examined by the local authority in the light of the high unit cost. It would not be practicable for me to give an estimate of cost for the scheme at this stage.

450.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will allocate £200,000 for the provision of a sewerage system in Cloonfad village, Ballyhaunis, County Roscommon.

Having regard to the need to conserve available capital for schemes of the highest priority I cannot indicate at the moment when I will be in a position to convey a decision to Roscommon County Council on the preliminary report for Cloonfad sewerage scheme which is under consideration in my Department.

451.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will approve a capital grant to Roscommon County Council for the provision of a sewerage system in Tarmonbarry, County Roscommon.

Having regard to the need to conserve capital for schemes of the highest priority I cannot say at present when a decision may issue to Roscommon County Council on the preliminary proposals for Tarmonbarry sewerage scheme which are under consideration in my Department. The question of financing the scheme does not arise at this stage.

452.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will approve a capital allocation to Roscommon County Council for the provision of Roscommon sewerage scheme stage 3 tertiary treatment at a cost of £400,000.

Roscommon County Council was asked in November 1982 to supply further technical details to my Department in support of the preliminary report submitted for this scheme. Consideration of the preliminary report is being deferred pending receipt of this information. The question of financing the scheme does not arise at this stage.

453.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will indicate developments regarding Arigna water supply scheme, County Roscommon.

The preliminary proposals for this scheme were referred back to Roscommon County Council in January 1981 for reconsideration of source and treatment arrangements. The revised proposals are awaited in my Department.

454.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will approve north Roscommon regional water supply scheme stages 2 and 3.

Stages 2 and 3 of the North Roscommon regional water supply scheme are dependent for a water supply on stage 1 which is under construction at present. Accordingly the approval of the preparation of contract documents will be considered in the light of progress on Stage 1.

455.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will indicate the position regarding the development of Monksland sewerage scheme, Stage 3.

There are no proposals in my Department for a Stage 3 development of the Monksland sewerage scheme and I assume that the Deputy is referring to Stage 2. I approved the preliminary report and the preparation of contract documents for this scheme in March, 1984. It is now a matter for Roscommon County Council to prepare and to submit contract documents to my Department.

456.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will approve a grant of £180,000 for the provision of an extension of public sewerage and provision of surface drainage system at Ballinagard road, Roscommon town.

As no proposals have been submitted to my Department for the provision of an extension of public sewerage and the provision of a surface drainage system at Ballinagard Road, Roscommon Town the question of funding does not arise.

457.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will allocate a capital grant for the implementation of the north-eastern regional water supply scheme in County Roscommon; the projected cost of the scheme; the number of householders and farms to be serviced by the scheme.

I recently conveyed approval to Roscommon County Council in respect of the preliminary report and the preparation of contract documents for this scheme. The question of financing the scheme does not arise and it would not be practicable for me to give an estimate of cost at this stage. The scheme will serve about 700 houses and 650 farms.

458.

asked the Minister for the Environment when work will commence on Strokestown sewerage scheme; the total estimated cost of the project; and when it will be completed.

A preliminary report for Strokestown sewerage improvement scheme was submitted to my Department by Roscommon County Council in May 1984 and is under examination. I cannot indicate at the moment when a decision on the scheme will issue to the local authority or when work will commence or conclude. It would not be practicable for me to give an estimate of cost for this scheme at this stage.

459.

asked the Minister for the Environment the proposed date for commencement of the Ballyleague sewerage scheme County Roscommon; the estimated cost of the project; and the projected completion date.

Contract documents for this scheme are under consideration in my Department. Having regard to the number of schemes in progress or approaching construction throughout the country at the present time for which adequate finance must be provided. I cannot say at this stage when I will be in a position to convey a decision on the documents to Roscommon County Council or when work on the scheme will commence or conclude. It would not be possible for me to give an estimated cost for this scheme as to do so could affect the eventual tendering process.
