asked the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry if he will arrange with the Southern Regional Fisheries Board to grant all late applications for salmon fishing licences to persons whose applications were late this year, but who had held licences for three or more years previously; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
I propose to take Questions Nos. 396 and 397 together. Under the Control of Fishing for Salmon Orders, 1980 to 1982, which govern the issue of salmon net licences, the assessment of applications and the issue of licences are matters for determination by each regional fisheries board concerned. The latest date for the receipt of completed application forms for commercial salmon fishing licences in accordance with these orders is 30 November in the year preceding the relevant fishing season. I have no function in the issue of these licences.
