Vol. 352 No. 4

Written Answers. - Special Educational Measures.

456.

asked the Minister for Education if she will accept that the time is appropriate for the recognition of Ballymun area as being educationally deprived; whether in accordance with such recognition she will make appropriate staff available so that the students in question can be given equal opportunity; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

In relation to the programme of special educational measures for disadvantaged areas which has been initiated this year my approach has been to concentrate on areas of educational disadvantage rather than on geographical areas where varying degrees of educational provision are available. Two schools in the Ballymun district are benefiting under this programme. Staffing levels in certain educationally disadvantaged schools are being considered at present with a view to seeing what additional measures can be taken within available resources.
