Vol. 352 No. 10

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

335.

asked the Minister for the Environment the number of applications for the £1,000 new house grant that have been rejected because the applicant did not apply for the grant within 12 months of occupation of the house; when the review of these applications will be completed; and when a decision will be made on the matter.

As records of rejected applications are not segregated on the basis of the grounds for rejection, the information requested by the Deputy is not readily available in my Department.

I reviewed the application of the one-year rule some months ago and on the basis of that review, I made regulations on 1 August 1984 the effect of which is to revoke in the case of "one-off" houses the condition that the grant application, must be received by the Minister within one year of the date of occupation of the house. These regulations also provide that the condition in question may be disregarded in certain circumstances in relation to the submission of tax certificates for the purpose of consideration of new house grant applications.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will arrange to have an early inspection for a £1,000 new house grant carried out for a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny.

An inspection will be carried out as soon as possible.

337.

asked the Minister for the Environment when a new house grant will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Cork.

The grant will be paid shortly.

338.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will expedite payment of a £1,000 new house grant to a person (details supplied) in County Roscommon.

A grant will be paid when an inspection establishes that the house is satisfactorily completed and occupied and that all conditions applying to the grant scheme have been complied with. The inspection will be carried out as soon as possible.

339.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will expedite inspection and payment of a £1,000 grant and subsidy to a person (details supplied) in County Roscommon.

My Department's inspector indicated that he was unable to certify this case for payment in a report furnished by him last June. The file has since been referred for a further inspection which will be carried out as soon as possible and the grant will be paid if the inspection establishes that the house is satisfactorily completed and occupied and that all the conditions applying to the grant scheme have been complied with. Payment of the first instalment of the mortgage subsidy will be made in due course when the applicant submits the relevant claim form, duly certified, and he is otherwise eligible.
