Vol. 352 No. 10

Written Answers. - Refurbishing of Fishing Vessels.

349.

Mr. Coughlan

asked the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry the amount of money available to this country from EC funds for refurbishing of fishing vessels in the current year; and if the total allocation has been claimed and utilised.

No specific notional allocations are made under the EC Scheme for restructuring fishing fleets but applications for grants are considered by the EC Commission on an individual basis. The Commission announces its decisions on applications twice yearly. In June 1984 the Commission approved of grants totalling £119,591 for Ireland in respect of three refurbishing projects. Decisions are due to be announced by 30 November 1984 in respect of seven further Irish applications. Pending those decisions it is not possible to say what amount of money will be made available for projects in the current year. To date no moneys have been claimed in respect of the projects already approved for grant-aid this year.
