Vol. 352 No. 10

Written Answers. - Killybegs (Donegal) Port Facilities.

350.

Mr. Coughlan

asked the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry the cost of the four winches provided for Killybegs, County Donegal, the supplier of these; and if they will continue to be operative when the syncrolift is installed.

I presume the Deputy is referring to the four winches purchased in 1973. The winches were purchased from Pearlson Engineering Co. Ltd., Florida, at a total cost of £31,464, and were provided for the syncrolift then proposed for Killybegs. At that time the capacity of the syncrolift envisaged was much smaller than the one now proposed to meet the requirements of the larger fishing boats now in the fleet. Consequently, the four winches would not be suitable for current needs at Killybegs. They have been placed in storage for use at a future date at another location.

Mr. Coughlan

asked the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry the position regarding the provision of a syncrolift in Killybegs, County Donegal, which was promised for 1984.

While I said when introducing the Fisheries Estimates for 1984 that provision had been made in the harbour development programme for the construction of the syncrolift at Killybegs, County Donegal, this year, I now find that it will not be possible to finalise arrangements to put the necessary work in hand before the end of 1984, as I had then anticipated. I hope, however, that work will commence early in 1985.
