Vol. 352 No. 11

Written Answers. - Poppintree Community and Leisure Centre.

415.

asked the Minister for Labour if he is aware of the situation existing in connection with the Poppintree community and leisure centre in so far as it has not been operating in the fashion envisaged for the benefit of the local community; and if he will have the matter examined with a view to affording all necessary co-operation for that purpose.

A grant of £166,000 was allocated to Dublin County Council in 1980 towards the provision of a sports complex in the Ballymun-Poppintree area. One of the conditions governing the allocation was that Dublin County Council would make the necessary arrangements for the management and maintenance of the centre when completed.

My Department have recently been made aware by Dublin County Council of certain difficulties — including that of management — affecting the Poppintree Centre and a meeting between officials of the county council and the Department has been arranged to discuss the problems which have arisen. My Department will be prepared to give any possible assistance in this matter but it will be appreciated that responsibility for the management of the centre rests with the council.
