Limerick East): Under the terms of the Garda Síochána (Discipline) Regulations, 1971, the conduct of disciplinary proceedings is a matter for the Garda Commissioner.
I am informed by the Commissioner that the disciplinary proceedings in this case were concluded in December 1983. It has never been the practice for the Garda authorities in cases of this nature to disclose publicly decisions taken in disciplinary proceedings which, under the statutory regulations, are required to be held in private. The member concerned has since retired from the force.
