County Clare Vocational Education Committee sought permission in 1983 to buy a site for a community college at Sixmilebridge. My Department considers a new post-primary school at Sixmilebridge unnecessary and did not accede to the request. There are sufficient places for pupils from the area in post primary schools in Shannon, Ennis, Tulla and Limerick where they traditionally attend.
My Department understand that a group of parents are at present compiling a submission on the matter which I assume will be forwarded to my Department. When this submission is received I will consider the request for a meeting referred to in the Deputy's question.
