Vol. 353 No. 4

Written Answers. - “Rules of the Road” Booklet.

507.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he is aware that because of the Government cut-backs the "Rules of the Road" booklet is virtually unobtainable and that persons (details supplied) in Dublin tried unsuccessfully to obtain a copy in their local Garda station, the Government Stationery Office, a motoring school and the road safety council; and if he will indicate where copies of this booklet can be obtained; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Adequate supplies of the "Rules of the Road" booklet are maintained by the National Road Safety Association (which produces and distributes the booklet on my behalf) to ensure in particular that any person who wishes to learn to drive may obtain a copy.

Any such person may obtain a copy of the booklet by calling at his local motor tax office, at the Driver Control Section of my Department (Floor 8, O'Connell Bridge House, Dublin 2) or at the offices of the National Road Safety Association (4, Northbrook Road, Ranelagh, Dublin 6). Alternatively the person concerned may obtain a copy by post from the association. In any event, a copy of the booklet is normally issued by the local motor tax office to each first-time applicant for a provisional licence.
