Receipts into the Exchequer from the sale of Government securities during the first six months of 1984 were £344 million of which £272 million was in respect of gilt sales and £72 million from Exchequer Bill sales. In the same period during 1983 receipts from both of these sources amounted to £314 million of which sales of gilts accounted for £257 million and sales of Exchequer Bills £57 million.
