Vol. 353 No. 5

Written Answers. - Legionnaire's Disease.

245.

asked the Minister for Health the measures that have been taken to ensure against an outbreak of Legionnaire's disease in this country in view of the recent major outbreak in Scotland.

In December 1982 the Department of Health specified the measures to be taken towards reducing the risk of the occurrence of cases of Legionnaire's disease in hospitals and homes throughout the country. The measures were circulated to each hospital and home and to health board personnel responsible for hospitals and community care.

In addition, as a routine measure the Department of Health circulates information about the dicease to the Directors of Community Care and Medical Officers of Health. The availability of this information on a regular basis enables the DCCMOH to evaluate the need for interventions in his area to protect the public against the disease.
