asked the Minister for Health if he will give details of a commitment made by his Department for the appointment of an orthodontist at the dental department, Regional Hospital, Galway; the reason this position has not been filled; and when the appointment will be made.

Approval to the creation of this post was given by my Department in 1983. Interviews were held by the Local Appointments Commission in January 1984, for the filling of the post. In April the commission recommended a person for appointment. Subsequently, this person declined the offer of appointment. It is hoped to re-advertise the post in the near future.
