Vol. 354 No. 3

Written Answers. - Tallaght (Dublin) School.

625.

asked the Minister for Education if he has received representations for a siting of a post primary school at Castle View, Ballymount Road, Tallaght, County Dublin; her response to these representations; and if she will make a statement on the provision of post primary facilities in this general area.

A submission has been received in my Department from a local committee regarding the provision of a post-primary school at Castleview. The points put forward in the submission will be taken into account in my Department's annual review of the post-primary accommodation position in the greater Tallaght area. This review will be commenced shortly when the up to date primary and post-primary figures for the area are fully available. While my Department owns a site in the Castleview area there are no immediate plans for the provision of a post-primary school there.

asked the Minister for Education if, pursuant to paragraphs 5 to 12 of the Programme for Action in Education, 1984-87, she will set up a local co-ordination committee under an independent chairman representative of all educational interests to facilitate initiatives in promoting co-operation in educational provision at post-primary level in the Kingswood-Kilnamanagh catchment of Tallaght Clondalkin, County Dublin.

The local co-ordination committees referred to in paragraph 5.12 of the Programme for Action in Education 1984-87 are intended to facilitate initiatives in promoting inter-school co-operation in centres where there is more than one school catering for a single post-primary school catchment area. It is not envisaged that such committees would operate in city areas and accordingly it is not proposed to establish such a committee in the Kingswood-Kilnamanagh area. In relation to the future development of post-primary education facilities in areas such as Kingswood and Kilnamanagh I have the benefit of advice from the advisory council on post primary accommodation in the greater Dublin area.
