Vol. 354 No. 9

Written Answers. - Limerick Natural Gas Supply.

608.

asked the Minister for Energy the scheduled dates for the commencement and the completion of the conversion of the existing equipment of customers of the Limerick Gas Company to enable them to use natural gas.

609.

asked the Minister for Energy the scheduled dates for the commencement and the completion of the construction of the natural gas pipeline from the Dublin/Cork line to Limerick city; and the proposed route of this line.

610.

asked the Minister for Energy if the agreement for the supply of natural gas between the Limerick Gas Company and BGE has been approved by him; if not the reason; and when such approval is likely to be forthcoming.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 608 to 610, inclusive, together.

No agreement between Limerick Gas Company and BGE has been submitted for my approval. The supply of natural gas by BGE to Limerick is still under discussion. I am anxious that a satisfactory outcome to the discussions should be achieved so that a decision can be taken on this project shortly. The time-scale for pipeline construction and the arrangements for the distribution of natural gas within Limerick city are dependent on the outcome of these discussions. A potential route for piping natural gas to Limerick has been identified by Bord Gáis Éireann but I consider that it would be premature to publish details of the proposed route at this stage.
