Vol. 354 No. 12

Written Answers. - Dublin Motor Taxation Office.

560.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he is aware of the large queues forming outside the tax office at River House; and the action, if any, he intends taking to deal with the problem.

The question of queues forming outside the tax office at River House has been a problem, particularly during the closing period for lunch around the end of each month. Following detailed discussions between my Department and the corporation over the past year, the position has improved recently to a considerable extent.

On 14 November last, the Minister of State at my Department issued a press release indicating steps taken to improve the quality of the service to the public at River House. As a result, personal callers for motor tax discs are now generally dealt with within 20 minutes.

The Motor Taxation office will remain open during lunchtime from the end of next month. This should have the effect of eliminating the queuing outside the office which tends to arise during the present closing period for lunch.

On 5 June last, the Minister of State announced that he was prepared to agree in principle to the opening of a sub-office, on a trial basis, on the south side of Dublin. This is being examined by the corporation as a matter of urgency.

The Department is keeping under close review the quality of the service at River House, in consultation with the corporation.
