Vol. 356 No. 1

Written Answers. - Clogherhead (Louth) Harbour.

475.

asked the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry if he is aware that very considerable damage has been caused to the pier at Clogherhead, County Louth, over the weekend, that boats cannot now berth there at low tide and that this will have a detrimental effect on the fishing industry and on a local fish factory in the area; and in view of the now critical situation at Clogherhead if he will make every endeavour to speed up the commencement of the work on the development of Clogherhead harbour.

The maintenance of the pier at Clogherhead is, of course, primarily a matter for the Louth County Council. Investigations into the recent storm damage there are currently being conducted by engineering officers of my Department, the Office of Public Works and the county council with a view to deciding on the works necessary to restore the pier for normal use.
