Vol. 356 No. 1

Written Answers. - Dublin Accident and Emergency Service.

498.

asked the Minister for Health the present arrangements for outpatients' casualty facilities in Dublin city; the typical waiting times at rush periods in the casualty department, such as 11 p.m. and whether the service is adequately meeting the demand.

The accident and emergency services in Dublin city are provided on a rota basis by eight major Dublin hospitals. The purpose of the rota is to ensure that there is a 24 hour "on call" emergency hospital service available for accidents and emergencies in the Dublin region. The position in relation to waiting times is that all genuine emergencies are dealt with as a matter of urgency and I am satisfied that the present service is adequate to deal with genuine accident and emergency cases.
