asked the Minister for the Public Service the superannuation arrangements applicable to members of the grade of tax assistant, former collectors of taxes, serving in the Revenue Commissioners with particular reference to the following aspects: (1) the maximum age to which they may serve; (2) the maximum age for which credit for pension purposes is granted; (3) the methods of calculating reckonable service for pension purposes; (4) the credit for pension purposes of previous service as a collector of taxes; and (5) any other factors affecting the calculation of pensions and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The answers to the Deputy's questions are as follows:

(1) They may serve to age 75 provided that their health and service continue to be satisfactory.

(4) Credit is not given for previous service as a collector of taxes. At the time of the abolition of the collector of taxes posts lump sum compensation was paid.

(2), (3) and (5) Matters affecting these questions have recently been raised by the Revenue Commissioners and as soon as decisions have been taken on these points the information sought by the Deputy will be conveyed to him.
