Vol. 357 No. 4

Written Answers. - Dental Benefit.

524.

asked the Minister for Health whether Irish citizens paying full English insurance who have EC medical cards are entitled to full dental benefit in this country; and if the health boards here are recouped from the DHSS in England for any such treatment.

Persons resident here who hold medical cards under EC regulations are entitled to the full range of health services provided by the health boards free of charge. This includes dental services. The cost of services provided under EC regulations is the responsibility of the country where the person concerned is insured. Under an agreement made under EC regulations the cost of services provided here for persons insured in Britain is recouped by the Department of Health from the British Department of Health and Social Security on a lump sum basis based on the average cost per person of providing all health services.
