Vol. 357 No. 4

Written Answers. - Blanchardstown (Dublin) Hospital.

526.

asked the Minister for Health the amount of money allocated to the James Connolly Memorial Hospital in Blanchardstown in 1984; the amount allocated in 1985 the percentage increase; and how this figure is arrived at.

The original non-capital allocation which was approved for James Connolly Memorial Hospital for 1984 amounted to £9,210,000. The corresponding allocation for 1985 is £9,728,000, representing an increase of 5.62 per cent on the 1984 provision.

The 1985 allocation for individual voluntary and joint board hospitals, including the James Connolly Memorial Hospital, was determined on the basis of the overall allocation approved by the Government in respect of the health services for 1985 and related Government decisions, and took account of the relative approved spending levels and associated activity levels of the hospitals in 1984.

527.

asked the Minister for Health the cost of the accident and emergency service at the James Connolly Memorial Hospital, Blanchardstown, for each year since 1 January 1982; and the amount allocated by his Department for the accident and emergency service in each year.

It is not the practice to allocate funds to meet the revenue costs of particular departments of hospitals. Each voluntary and joint board hospital is given an overall non-capital allocation on the basis of which the hospital authority determines the budgets for individual cost centres of the hospital.

It is understood that the non-capital expenditure associated with the accident and emergency service at the James Connolly Memorial Hospital amounted to £545,000 for 1983 and £570,000 for 1984. A separate figure for the cost of that service is not available for 1982.
