Vol. 357 No. 8

Written Answers. - Reclassification of Disadvantaged Areas.

174.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will publish the submission made by the Government in August 1984 to the EC Commission about adjustments to the boundaries of our disadvantaged areas under Directive 75/268/EC; and the reason obvious necessary adjustments were not made in South Kerry.

175.

asked the Minister for Agriculture the townlands and/or district electoral divisions in the south Kerry constituency which were submitted to the EC Commission in August 1984, for inclusion in the disadvantaged areas; and whether a special case was made for any of these townlands in the submission.

176.

asked the Minister for Agriculture the names of the areas in County Monaghan for which application was made to be included in the severely disadvantaged areas; and the reason they were not all included.

177.

asked the Minister for Agriculture the names of the town lands in County Monaghan submitted to Brussels for inclusion in the more severely handicapped area; and the names of the townlands accepted for inclusion.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 174 to 177, inclusive, together.

During the third national review of the boundaries of the disadvantaged areas all the areas in Counties Monaghan and Kerry which are classified as less severely handicapped were examined in detail with a view to reclassifying them as more severely handicapped where such a change could be justified. On 25 March 1985 I published a list of all the adjustments to the disadvantaged areas which the Commission considers warranted, including areas already designated but now meriting reclassification, and a copy is available in the Library of the House.

In accordance with previous practice I do not propose to publish the contents of the submission made to the Commission on this matter in August last.
