Vol. 357 No. 8

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

543.

asked the Minister for the Environment the cause of the long delay in paying a house improvement grant to a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny where the work was inspected and passed on 2 January 1985.

The application in this case was received on 14 April 1983 and a certificate of approval issued on 6 May 1983. The applicant notified the Department on 18 December 1984 that the relevant works had been completed and the inspector's final report in the matter was received on 29 January 1985. Having regard to the period that normally elapses between the receipt of an inspector's report and payment of the grant, it is accepted that this grant should have been paid before now. However, given the volume of payments that have to be dealt with it is inevitable that from time to time longer delays than usual will arise in some cases. In this case payment will be made shortly.
