Vol. 357 No. 8

Written Answers. - Mayo Compulsory Purchase Orders.

542.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will sanction compulsory purchase orders (details supplied) received from Mayo County Council for rural houses at an early date in view of the urgency of some of the applications; and if he will allow Mayo County Council to advertise the houses in those compulsory purchase orders for tender so that there will not be any undue delay in commencing construction on the houses.

The County Health District of Mayo No. 6 Compulsory Purchase (Housing) Order, 1984, has been the subject of correspondence between my Department and Mayo County Council because of legal difficulties in relation to one of the sites in the order. When this matter has been satisfactorily resolved, I will give my decision on the order at the earliest possible date. Processing of the County Health District of Mayo No. 7 Compulsory Purchase (Housing) Order, 1984, has reached an advanced stage. I hope to give my decision on the order shortly.

When the necessary processing of the County Health District of Mayo No. 8 Compulsory Purchase (Housing) Order, 1984, has been completed in my Department I will give my decision on the order. It is a matter for Mayo County Council to decide when to invite tenders for any proposed housing having regard to the need in their area and the capital available. It would not be prudent, however, to seek tenders in advance of decisions or the relevant compulsory purchase orders.
