Vol. 357 No. 8

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Benefit.

553.

asked the Minister for Health if disabled persons maintenance allowance payments from health boards are reduced by the means of a spouse in County Wexford (details supplied) who is in receipt of a non-contributory old age pension and, if so, at what level.

In accordance with the Disabled Persons (Maintenance Allowances) Regulations, 1984, the income of a person's spouse, including any social welfare payments other than supplementary welfare allowance, is taken into account in determining the amount of a maintenance allowance. In this particular case the allowance was reduced by £41.30, being the rate of the non-contributory old age pension payable to the applicant's spouse.
