Written Answers. - Renal Dialysis.

554.

asked the Minister for Health the number of beds which were available at Cork Regional Hospital for renal dialysis in 1980; the number of beds available at the present time; and the number of staff in the renal dialysis unit in 1980 and at the present time.

In 1980 the haemodialysis unit at Cork Regional Hospital had six stations. Each station comprises one bed and a dialysis machine. The unit currently consists of six stations with the use of up to three additional beds and three additional dialysis machines. A total staff complement of 17 served the unit in 1980 which included four medical staff. There has been no change in the staff complement with the exception of an additional locum staff nurse who is employed for three months in the summer period.
