Vol. 357 No. 8

Written Answers. - New National Schools.

580.

asked the Minister for Education when it is proposed to start construction work on the new national school at Ballinora, County Cork.

My Department have approved in principle the extension of Ballinora national school, County Cork. Sketch plans were prepared, but because the school authorities were unable to acquire all of the extra land required for the project as originally planned, it is necessary to undertake a design revision and this work is being attended to. A review of enrolment trends is also being carried out by my Department's local inspector to ensure that the extra accommodation will be in line with requirements. At this stage it is not possible to say when construction work on the project may be started.

581.

asked the Minister for Education the up-to-date position in relation to planning for Foxford national school, County Mayo; and when construction will commence.

My Department have approved sketch plans prepared by the Commissioners of Public Works for the proposed new national school at Foxford, County Mayo. When satisfactory title to the new site has been established on the basis of documentation recently furnished to my Department by the school authorities, my Department will be in a position to sanction a grant towards the cost of the project and arrange for detailed planning to be undertaken.

It is not possible at this stage to say when construction of the project may commence.
