asked the Minister for Finance the amount paid under PAYE income tax in the first quarter of each of the years 1982, 1983, 1984 and 1985; the proportion these amounts represent of total PAYE income tax in each of the years 1982, 1983, 1984 and of the estimated yield in 1985.
It is proposed to take Questions Nos. 32 and 33 together.
The following table sets out:
(i) the estimated net receipt of income tax collected through the PAYE mechanism in 1980, 1981, 1982, 1983 and 1984, and the comparable budget estimate for 1985;
(ii) the estimated net receipt of PAYE income tax in the first quarter of each of those years; and
(ii) the proportion of the annual yields represented by the receipt in the first quarter.

Income tax collected through the PAYE mechanism covers more than income tax on ordinary wages and salaries. It includes tax paid by directors of close companies who are akin to the self-employed as well as tax on "other income" of employees such as rent and other investment income.
