Vol. 361 No. 3

Written Answers. - European Social Fund Grant.

152.

asked the Minister for Education the reasons the European Social Fund grant is not available to students who are commencing courses (details supplied) in the College of Technology, Kevin Street, this year.

For purposes of the middle level technician programme operated by my Department with aid from the European Social Fund certain one and two year courses in regional technical colleges and colleges of technology are recognised. As the courses referred to by the Deputy are structured as ab initio three year diploma courses it is not possible to have these included in the programme in 1985-86.

153.

asked the Minister for Education the reasons the European Social Fund grant is not being paid this year to a second year student (details supplied) at the College of Technology, Kevin Street.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 153 and 154, together. My Department received an inquiry on these matters from the College of Technology, Kevin Street, on 22 October 1985 and has informed the college authorities that ESF-aided grants may be awarded to the students in question.
