Vol. 361 No. 3

Written Answers. - Employment Assistance Measures.

31.

asked the Minister for Labour the number of persons unemployed under the age of 25 years; the action, if any, he intends taking to give employment to those out of work; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

There were 73,156 persons under 25 on the live register at the end of September 1985. The measures to be taken in the next three years to assist employment are as set out in Building on Reality 1985-1987 and by the Taoiseach in the Dáil last week. Their implementation falls to a number of Ministers. Youth will of course benefit from these measures.

My area of concern is the provision through my Department and its agencies, of employment, training and work experience opportunities. In all, some 57,000 young persons will benefit from these programmes during 1985.
