Vol. 361 No. 8

Written Answers. - Tax Free Status.

121.

asked the Minister for Finance if in view of the designation of Shannon as a tax-free manufacturing zone and Ringaskiddy as a tax-free heavy industry zone if he will give tax-free status to the proposed international services industrial park in Galway.

The intention is to designate Ringaskiddy as a free port under the Free Ports Bill, 1985, when enacted. I assume the Deputy is seeking to know if the proposed international services industrial park in Galway could also be designated on the enactment of that Bill, thus qualifying for relevant tax concessions. The designation of areas as free ports will be a matter for the Minister for Communications. I would draw the Deputy's attention to the Second Stage speech made by the Minister of State at the Department of Communications in the Dáil on 7 November 1985 in connection with that Bill, in which he stated that there are no plans to establish any other free ports for the moment.
