Vol. 361 No. 8

Written Answers. - Anti-Poverty Programme.

171.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if the £1 million listed in the Book of Estimates for 1985 under the heading anti-poverty programme has yet been allocated; if so, the organisations which have received funds; the amounts; and the purposes for which the funds were provided in each case.

The allocation of £1 million for the anti-poverty programme in 1985 was for the establishment of a Combat Poverty Agency and to fund the agency's activities this year. Legislation to establish the agency, having passed all stages in Seanad Éireann will now be discussed in the Dáil and the agency will be established as soon as possible after the legislation has been enacted. Pending the establishment of the agency funds have not been granted to any organisation from this allocation.

A limited amount of expenditure from this allocation has arisen in connection with the preparations for the EC poverty programme. Under this programme eight projects from this country have been selected and they will commence shortly.
