asked the Minister for Agriculture the number of tonnes of casein exported in 1984-85 and the cost to the Exchequer; the number of tonnes rejected by the purchaser and the cost to the Exchequer; if the manufacturers of the rejected casein can be identified and the action being taken; and the amount of affected casein in the country at the moment and the cost to the Exchequer.

Some 25,000 tonnes of casein were exported during the marketing year 1984-85. There was no cost to the Exchequer and I am not aware that any of the casein was rejected by the purchaser.
In the current year, however, some difficulty arose in respect of casein produced at one plant. No cost to the Exchequer resulted from this and appropriate action has been taken to deal with the difficulty.
