Vol. 361 No. 8

Written Answers. - Offaly Teacher's Pension.

250.

Mr. Cowen

asked the Minister for Education if full pension entitlements are to be paid to a retired school teacher (details supplied) in County Offaly on whose behalf Deputy Cowen has already made representations setting out her case in full.

The teacher concerned did not receive maximum pension benefits. The pension entitlements of national school teachers are based on the amount of pensionable service the individual teacher has on the date of retirement, the maximum benefits being based on 40 years' pensionable service.

As the teacher concerned had only five years and 330 days service which was reckonable as pensionable when she retired this year, her pension entitlements fell to be calculated on the basis of that amount of service only.
