The most recent return from local authorities gives the number of applications for the £5,000 grant received up to 30 September 1985 as 4,174. Separate figures for applications in respect of new houses and previously occupied houses are available only in relation to grants paid. Of the 1,100 grants paid up to 30 September, 487 were in respect of new houses and 613 were in respect of previously occupied houses.
