I have been advised by the Revenue Commissioners that the point at issue in this case appears to be the reallocation of portion of the husband's tax-free allowances to his wife. A certificate of tax-free allowances granting the PAYE and PRSI allowances was issued to the wife on 29 October 1985. As it is unclear from the correspondence received in the tax office as to exactly what balance of allowances is to be allocated to the wife, the inspector of taxes will communicate with the taxpayer as soon as possible to clarify the position.
