Vol. 361 No. 11

Written Answers. - Department of Defence Headquarters.

22.

asked the Minister for Finance if, in view of the recent decision to construct a headquarters for Army and civil servants in the Department of Defence the Government will now reinstate the decentralisation programme cancelled by them; and construct offices in the various locations as in the suggested programmes.

The proposed new headquarters for the Department of Defence to be located on a State-owned site at Parkgate, Phoenix Park, Dublin, did not form part of the decentralisation programme. The proposal to build new headquarters for that Department is justified by the poor condition of the present accommodation and by a concern to ensure a more effective and efficient organisation of that Department.
