Vol. 361 No. 11

Written Answers. - Tax Rebates.

79.

asked the Minister for Finance the reason for the prolonged delay in granting a tax rebate to a person (details supplied) in County Dublin in respect of a period when he was unemployed from 6 June 1985, to 14 June 1985; and if this rebate can now be paid to him.

I have been advised by the Revenue Commissioners that the delay in issuing a cumulative certificate of tax-free allowances to the taxpayer arose from his failure to supply promptly to the inspector full details of his employment position in respect of the period from 6 April 1985 to 10 August 1985. This information was requested by the inspector on 2 September 1985. The full details have now come to hand and arrangements have been made to issue the required cumulative certificate of tax-free allowances. Any tax over-deducted from the taxpayer's earnings in the current year is refundable by his employer on operation of that certificate.

asked the Minister for Finance when he will pay a tax rebate to a person (details supplied) in County Wexford.

I have been advised by the Revenue Commissioners that a cheque in settlement of the refund due for the years 1979-80 to 1982-83 was issued to the taxpayer in the latter part of last month. The inspector of taxes has been unable to process the taxpayer's repayment claim for the year 1984-85 because, as was explained to the Deputy in the enclosure to a letter from my office dated 23 October 1985, the taxpayer's former employer failed to provide confirmatory details of pay and tax deducted during the year. This information is being sought by the inspector. As soon as it is received a review of the taxpayer's liability for 1984-85 will be carried out and any refund found to be due will be made as quickly as possible.
