Vol. 361 No. 11

Written Answers. - Income Tax Payment.

81.

asked the Minister for Finance the reason an old age pensioner (details supplied) in County Wexford with no other means of income has been asked for income tax on a continuous basis over the past four years.

I have been advised by the Revenue Commissioners that on 24 August 1984, the inspector of taxes issued return of income forms to the taxpayer for the four years ended 5 April 1984. As there was no response from the taxpayer, estimated assessments were made for the years 1984-85 and 1985-86. Appeals have not been lodged against the assessments and the relevant tax charged is legally due and payable. In order that the correct liabilities, if any, may be determined, the taxpayer should apply to the inspector for admission of late appeals against the assessments referred to and submit completed returns of income for the relevant years.
