asked the Minister for Justice the total amount of money taken from (a) the 400 armed robberies which took place in 1984 and (b) the 457 robberies which took place for the first nine months of 1985; the amount which has been recovered in each case; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Special measures are taken to protect money in transit and to provide Garda cover at post offices and employment exchanges when large sums of cash are being distributed in social welfare allowances. I cannot, for obvious reasons, give specific details of these measures.
