Vol. 362 No. 13

Written Answers. - Garda Statistics.

179.

asked the Minister for Justice the total number of members in the Garda Síochána on 30 November each year from 1975 to date; and the number of new members recruited and trained each year for the same period.

180.

asked the Minister for Justice the number of Garda Síochána in each Garda division on December 1 of each year for the last ten years.

181.

asked the Minister for Justice the staffing level of all ranks of the Garda Síochána in each Garda station in Dublin city and county for the past ten years.

Limerick East): I propose to take Questions Nos. 179 to 181, inclusive, together.

I would refer the Deputy to the replies to Questions Nos. 374 to 381 on 13 December 1984 and Question No. 348 on 21 October 1980 which gave overall Garda strength, strength in the Dublin Metropolitan Area and the numbers recruited to the Garda Síochána in the years 1975 to 1983. The corresponding particulars in respect of the year 1984 and 1985 up to 30 November are given in the table which follows.

The compilation of all other information sought in these questions and the recompilation of information referred to in the previous paragraph by reference to 30 November in each year rather than 31 December would take an inordinate amount of time and would involve diverting Garda manpower from other more pressing duties. I do not think I would be justified in asking the Garda to undertake such work.
