Vol. 362 No. 13

Written Answers. - CERT Courses.

193.

asked the Minister for Labour if he will give details relating to the number of young people in County Limerick who have applied for and who have been accepted for EC backed CERT courses; the number of CERT trainees from County Limerick who have actually completed CERT courses and have found employment subsequently in the hotel and catering business and if he will also provide information relating to the level of European Social Fund aid provided for CERT trainees.

Comprehensive information in the detail sought by the Deputy is available for 1985 only. In 1985, applications for places on formal training programmes were received from 330 persons with addresses in County Limerick. Of these 50 persons actually commenced training. A total of 19 persons from Limerick completed formal training courses in 1985 and all of these persons were placed in employment. In addition in 1985, courses for unemployed persons were run by CERT in two temporary training centres in County Limerick, at Kilfinane and Limerick city. These courses provided training for 82 unemployed persons.

In 1984, a temporary centre was run in Limerick city catering for 40 unemployed persons and in 1983 a temporary centre in Shannon, County Clare, catered for 35 persons with addresses in the County Limerick area.

The average rate of placement in employment for these courses run at temporary centres was 83 per cent. The total cost of all the programmes mentioned above is estimated at £271,000, of which 55 per cent was contributed by the European Social Fund.
