Provision was made in the 1985 Public Capital Programme for the payment of a State grant of £300,000 to Drogheda Harbour Commissioners in respect of remedial works on Ballast and Welshman's Quays. Payment of the grant was subject to my Department and the Department of Finance being satisfied that the project was financially viable. To this end the commissioners have provided information sought by the Department. My Department's examination of the financial viability of the project will be completed in the next few months. My Department is also considering the technical viability of the scheme in conjunction with its technical advisers. I will be deciding shortly on the allocations of State grant assistance for harbour works.
