Figures for the years prior to 1980 are not available and could only be provided by the expenditure of a disproportionate amount of Garda time and effort.

Limerick East): I propose to take Questions Nos. 377 and 378 together. A record of the numbers of robberies and the total value of property stolen is maintained by the Garda Síochána on an annual basis and published each year in the Garda Commissioner's report on crime. It would not be possible to provide figures in the manner requested by the Deputy, covering a period of a few weeks, without adding considerably to the duties of the Garda.
