381.
asked the Minister for Justice the total number of confirmed drug addicts in our Irish prisons, indicating (a) the type of drug addiction in each case; (b) the form of therapy available to these addicts; (c) the numbers who have availed of this therapy; (d) where such therapy was given, and (e) the estimated overall success rate where therapy was availed of.
Limerick East): The number of prisoners in custody on 21 January regarded by the medical officers as drug addicts was 210. As the Deputy will appreciate, some of these prisoners would be regarded as addicted to a number of substances and it is not, therefore, possible to make a categorisation of the type sought.
On the other issues raised by the Deputy, I would refer him to my replies to Question Nos. 7, 17, 27, 30 and 33 of 27 November 1985 (Official Report columns 317-326) and to Question No. 37 of 23 October 1985 (Official Report columns 38-40).
