(Limerick West) asked the Minister for Agriculture if he can confirm that the function of the FADN is to collect data concerning farming incomes in the various EC member states with a view to calculating a fair price rise for the various farming systems at the annual price-fixing for intervention commodities.

The purpose of the data network as set out in Regulation No. 79/65/EEC is to collect the accountancy data needed for, in particular, an annual determination of incomes on agricultural holdings and a business analysis of agricultural holdings. The data obtained is intended to serve primarily as the basis for the drawing up of reports by the Commission on the situation of agriculture and of agricultural markets as well as on farm incomes in the Community. The reports are to be submitted annually to the Council and the European Parliament, in particular for the annual fixing of prices of agricultural produce.
