Vol. 363 No. 6

Written Answers. - Carlow Regional Technical College.

20.

asked the Minister for Education if she is aware of the serious problems that pertain in Carlow Regional Technical College regarding the inadequate availability of facilities, the serious overcrowding in the college with particular reference to the library and canteen facilities and the late payment of grants; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

I am aware that there has been a significant increase in student numbers in recent years in Carlow Regional Technical College. No proposal for an extension to the college has been made to my Department but, as part of an ongoing general review of third level accommodation, my Department are carrying out an analysis of the overall accommodation requirements in the college and the question of library and canteen accommodation will be taken into account in the context of this analysis. I understand that the authorities of Carlow RTC are unaware of any delay in the payment of the grants to students in that payments are being made in accordance with the conditions of the schemes.
