Vol. 363 No. 7

Written Answers. - Review Body on Higher Remuneration.

60.

asked the Minister for Communications if the chief executive officer and the six executive directors of An Bord Telecom are subject to the restrictions and parameters established by the Review Body on Higher Remuneration in the Public Sector; and if he will give details of the salaries of these and any other managers not included on the internal pay roll.

The salary of the chief executive of Bord Telecom Éireann (BTE) is determined by the board of BTE subject to the approval of the Minister for Communications given with the consent of the Minister for the Public Service in line with the recommendations of the Review Body on Higher Remuneration in the Public Sector.

The salary range appropriate to the post of chief executive is currently £35,695 to £42,138 per annum, i.e. in Band 1 of the review body's categories. The range is subject to appropriate adjustments for superannuation and perquisites.

The salaries for posts other than that of chief executive have not been included in the remit of the review body but are determined by the board. It has not been the practice and it would be inappropriate for me to give specific details, as sought by the Deputy, of the salaries of individual executive directors. The Deputy's reference to "managers not included on the internal pay roll" is not understood.
