Vol. 363 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Housing Grants.

49.

asked the Minister for the Environment (a) the number and (b) the value of applications for reconstruction grants received to date; and if he is satisfied that there are sufficient funds in the Estimates to enable the grants to be paid this year.

36.

asked the Minister for the Environment the amount paid out to date under the new scheme for home improvements; and the number of applications still pending.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 49 and 36 together. Up to and including 7 February, about 36,000 applications had been received and grants to a value of £6,200 had been paid. The value of the applications on hand cannot be determined until inspections have been carried out and the appropriate grants approved.

I am satisfied that the £24 million provided in the Estimates should be adequate to meet grant payments this year.

What question is the House dealing with now?

We are dealing with questions nominated for priority.

We are being squeezed out. It is very unfair.

The Deputy will withdraw the remark that it is unfair. It is an imputation on the Chair.

It is unfair, really.

The Deputy will withdraw that remark.

I am saying it is unfair——

The Deputy will leave the House now.

That is savage.

If the Deputy does not leave the House I will invoke Standing Orders.

I had problems yesterday. Today I had a question about bridging, which is very important.
